Team Manager Legal & Research | Auckland CityTeam Manager, Legal and Research, Auckland Permanent Full Time We are looking for a talented and experienced leader of people to be our Team Manager, Legal and Research within the Judicial and Business Services team.
Te Haeata/The Opportunity Showcase your positive and proactive attitude, exceptional communication skills and excellent leadership skills in building the capability of our legal research staff and in supporting the judiciary, leaders and staff of Tribunals.
The Ministry of Justice provides support services to 28 tribunals, committees, and authorities (Tribunals), each with functions and powers to hear and resolve disputes between parties. The various teams that support our Tribunals are supportive, friendly, customer-focused and driven to provide the best service possible. The Team Manager Legal and Research plays a key role in the day-to-day legal and research support for the various Tribunals and in fostering key relationships with its judiciary and senior leaders.
If you are someone that thrives on a challenge, this is an excellent opportunity within our Judicial and Business Services Unit to lead the team of seven Legal and Research Advisors. The role also oversees researching issues of law in jurisdictions within the portfolio, including writing opinions, papers, and research notes. Attention to detail and a legal qualification are a must and knowledge of government is an advantage.
Duties Develop and improve the capability of the business unit.Identify and assess areas for capability development and develop, implement, and manage plans to address capability gaps.Take overall responsibility for quality and timeliness of legal research support across the relevant tribunal jurisdictions.Develop and maintain relationships with judicial officers and senior leaders.Research issues of law in jurisdictions within the portfolio, writing opinions, papers, and research notes as required.Proofread decisions and prepare abstracts for publication.Recruit, train and coach staff to support individual development.The successful candidate will have great interpersonal skills and will be able to bring the right balance of strategic and operational thinking.
You are an excellent and experienced people leader and a great communicator (both written and verbally) with a proven ability to engage and motivate teams to complete quality and timely services every day.
You have a strong attention for detail and exceptional organisation skills with a proactive and friendly attitude. You are energetic, can work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines and are flexible, calm, and resilient.
Your experience working in a dynamic environment and your ability to be agile in response to changing priorities and needs will be crucial in this role.
You must have completed a Bachelor of Law Degree (or higher) and have some experience working in a legal research environment.

Salary Range: The remuneration for this role is $97,208 - $135,539. The appointing salary will be based on skills and experience and will likely be between $105,350 and $121,302.
