Nga kawenga | About the role An opportunity for a practitioner with custodial experience, and an understanding of corrections practice, has arisen in Te Waipounamu – Southern grouping. Reporting to the Manager Capability Pathways and Practice, the Practice Manager Custodial is an integral part of the Regional Capability, Pathways and Practice team as a source of expertise and spokesperson to strengthen custodial practice and capability. The role will partner with prison sites, the national Custodial Practice team and learning and development functions to support the development and maintenance of best practice custodial services and initiatives. They will contribute to the development of staff practice and capability in our custodial sites and provide informed advice on emerging custodial practices and developments.
To be successful in this role you will need to have an:
In-depth knowledge of custodial practices and prisons, and the ability to consult and advise on operational custodial matters.Understanding of the operational aspects of effective prison management.Good knowledge of the practice frameworks currently operating in the community and case management.Ability to align practice to Hokai Rangi outcomes for people in prison and for staff.Ability to think conceptually and make the "big picture" connections while remaining focused on operational practicalities.Ability to analyse complex problems, defining their nature and extent and exercising sound judgement in selecting approaches to their resolution.Well-developed interpersonal skills, and the ability to encourage and lead co-operative efforts, identifying and managing potential areas of conflict.Strong relationship management skills, including the ability to develop and maintain relationships in the wider justice sector and the international corrections community.Ability to gain the confidence of a wide range of stakeholders, understanding and articulating their issues and concerns, and anticipating future ones.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, as there is a heavy reliance on the role to provide reviews at all levels.The midpoint of the salary range is $137,525 and the full range (85%-120%) is $116,897 - $165,030. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
