We are inviting expressions of interest from experienced Medical Laboratory Scientists who are interested in progressing their career. The upcoming role is based primarily in the Newborn Metabolic Screening area. The department provides laboratory services for a national programme screening newborns for inherited errors of metabolism and monitoring previously diagnosed patients.
In this role you will be initially helping set up a method for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) testing and then expanding to other testing for the national screening programme. You will be required to evaluate the new test, oversee all testing in the area (routine running and troubleshooting), provide consistent training to staff, manage documentation and ensure MOH Prevention Unit quality requirements and IANZ accreditation requirements are met. The role will also involve regular meetings with the Clinical Metabolic Service and external stakeholders.
The position is full time working rostered shifts from Monday-Sunday and is permanent. Note the salary range for this position is between $114,000 and $117,000.

The area is busy with strict turnaround time and quality requirements. Applicants will need to possess excellent organisational, computer and communication skills and be flexible with working hours. Experience with tandem mass spectrometry and molecular technologies would be advantageous along with an understanding of biochemical pathways.
The role requires a person with a skillset including attention to detail, excellent time management, accuracy and the ability to work closely with others. The ability to train and supervise staff is essential as is familiarity with the ISO15189 standard. You must have a current annual practicing certificate and be registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand.
