Mo te tunga | About the role
As a Support Worker, you will be supporting people with intellectual disabilities to enjoy great lives. This is meaningful work where you can be creative and make every day interesting in ways that are important to others. A new community fundraised sensory room will be opened shortly, and someone with prior experience in this kind of space would be highly valued.
You will be supporting people to access our community hub located in Matamata; this will involve organizing and supervising a range of activities based on their interests. This is a fast-paced role where no two days are the same. You need to be comfortable leading a group of people for activities including arts and crafts, dance, and music. Initiating new activities and motivating people to get involved will be a key part of this role.
Previous relevant experience is preferred, but more importantly, we are looking for someone with varied life experience and the right attitude. Previous work experience within education, occupational therapy, or physiotherapy would be a great advantage. A warm, welcoming, and energetic attitude will be essential!
You should also have:
The skills to build good relationships with the people we support and help them make good decisions for themselves
The ability to work independently and problem-solve in complex situations
Excellent communication skills and the ability to share information in a way that can be easily understood
Comfortable and proficient in using technology
You will need to be physically fit to support in a variety of activities
Have a Full NZ driver's licence
