To support us in the successful delivery of our strategy and policy work, we are looking for someone who is skilled and qualified and individuals who are eager to help to shape the Whangarei District and its communities.About the roleWe currently have an opportunity for a Strategic Planner to join our Strategic Planning team. With a reputation for innovative thinking and community engagement on sometimes hotly debated projects our team of strategists need someone who is a great communicator, a creative thinker and can deliver high quality strategic projects.As our strategic planner, you will be working on, and leading, a variety of strategies, spatial planning and urban development projects. You will have the opportunity to work on projects of different scales and locations from the community to the region, from the city to the rural coast. You will be researching background information, developing policy options, actively involved in consultation and will finalise the project with tangata whenua, key stakeholders and Elected Members.You'll be part of a team with expertise in several areas including corporate planning, climate change adaptation, bylaw and statutory policy development, design, urban planning and data analysis. As the successful candidate you will compliment this skill set but also bring along additional expertise in the Resource Management Act, Local Government Act, urban planning or policy development that will expand the capability of the team.About youIf this role has sparked your interest, we'd love to hear from you if you're able to demonstrate some or all of the following:Well-developed research and analytical skills, including quantitative and qualitative analysisThe ability to successfully work with a varied portfolio of planning and policy workExcellent communication skills and the ability to foster meaningful relationships with key stakeholdersInnovative solutions to strategic urban, rural and environmental planning issuesThe ability to work with multi-disciplinary project teams that have delivered high quality planning outcomesEngagement and consultation skills with a variety of different communities.The projects attached to this position will be varied but also offer exciting opportunities for an interesting work programme.
