Senior Software Engineer

Details of the offer

Kia ora and welcome to Multitudes! We're on a mission to make tech equitable and inclusive – and we're hiring!
Our product is an AI agent that not only enhances product delivery but also nurtures teams – by making sure everyone is getting the feedback they need, that work is distributed fairly, and giving visibility to the warning signs of burnout.
Our dedication extends beyond our product to how we operate. Every aspect of our team, from hiring practices to product development, is infused with our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
About the opportunity: Senior Software Engineer We're hiring a senior software engineer who is passionate about solving real-world, data-driven customer needs and has expertise in backend systems, infrastructure, and data pipelines.
At Multitudes, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with other great minds in an inclusive working environment where you can experiment, innovate, and bring your ideas to life. With plenty to build, test, and optimize, you'll take full ownership of critical backend services, infrastructure design, and the data pipelines powering our AI-driven product.
This role is perfect for someone who can hit the ground running and thrives on diving into complex technical challenges while building impactful features that directly impact our customers.
What you will work on:
Reporting directly to our Founder Lauren, collaborate on strategic decisions and ensure alignment with the company's technical direction
Collaborate with Lauren and Laura, Product & Design Lead, to understand product requirements, contribute to technical solutions, and participate in customer conversations to gain direct insights into their needs and challenges
Design and implement scalable backend services to support data processing and work with our Lead Data Scientist Vivek to develop features on our AI roadmap
Work on infrastructure improvements, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance
Collaborate with Hazel, Emily, and Josh (our other engineers) across the stack, stepping into frontend implementation as needed to support project goals and ensure smooth integration
Be part of the on-call roster, handling incidents and customer issues with urgency to maintain service reliability
Our stack includes a React frontend, Dockerized Typescript APIs powering the backend, and data pipelines using Python and Snowflake/Mage.
Core skills Required Extensive experience building and maintaining backend systems (Node.js, Typescript, or similar)
Expertise in infrastructure design and optimization, with experience in Docker, cloud environments, and scalable architecture
Deep customer empathy – you're customer-obsessed and eager to meet with customers to understand their pain points and build solutions that truly address them
Problem-solving and growth mindset - You embrace feedback and see failures as opportunities to learn and improve
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Commitment to the core mission and values of Multitudes – you're passionate about our product, driven by our mission, and you feel excited about working for a fast-paced startup
Nice to have Experience with AI/ML technologies and how they integrate with backend systems
Familiarity with frontend integration, particularly in React-based applications
At Multitudes, we know that the perfect candidate doesn't always tick every box. We're looking for someone with strong problem-solving skills and a customer-obsessed mindset. If you bring these qualities and are excited about our mission and the chance to grow into new areas – whether it's diving deeper into infrastructure, backend services, or data pipelines – we encourage you to apply.
What we provide Supportive working environment with remote & flexible work options
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion – both in how we work as a team and in our product development practices
Opportunity to be part of an impact-led, fast-paced startup
$150K total compensation, $130K base salary plus $20K equity, and $5K per year cash increases guaranteed
$500 annual Learning and Development budget
$1000 one-off allowance for your home office setup
Regular board games, bi-annual team strategy week, and more!
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team; we cannot succeed in our mission without it. People from marginalized groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
Note that this is a full-time role based in New Zealand.
