Due to an internal secondment, we are looking for a Senior Payroll Officer to join our small and busy team providing payroll services for DOC's workforce based across Aotearoa. This is a high-paced, high-volume function and we need someone that can bring their experience and hit the ground running. The Senior Payroll Officer is responsible for delivering best practice payroll services and advice in line with our policy and procedures and statutory obligations.
Our Payroll team maintains a fortnightly payroll for our business, provides advice, and keeps records up to date so our people are paid the right amount at the right time. The Senior Payroll Officer will have a key role in processing requests, keeping our systems and processes aligned to employment agreements, and making sure deadlines are met. The role is based in Wellington but we will consider other working locations if needed.
You will be focused on:
Making timely and accurate payments to our approximate 2,500 employees, maintaining employee records, and working closely with our Human Resources and support people.Processing payroll tasks using the JadeStar and TimeFiler systems.Responding to enquiries and tasks promptly from our software system Assyst, ensuring they are dealt with to a high level of accuracy and timeliness.Opportunities to get involved in periodic project work to enhance processes to increase efficiency.Reporting into the Payroll Team Lead, you'll join a small team of Payroll specialists. Proven, hands-on payroll processing experience – Jade Star payroll system experience will be a bonus!Accuracy and high attention to detail.Problem-solving ability.Ability to maintain confidentiality, diplomacy, and discretion.Ability to interpret and apply legislation - knowledge of NZ payroll-related legislation in the public service working environment is preferred.Organisational and time management skills to meet tight deadlines.A customer-focused approach to your work and ability to contribute positively in a team.DOC places importance on developing a culture where everyone can participate, thrive, and grow. The salary range for this position is $68,535 - $86,423 pro-rata with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
