ABOUT RIGHT TO THE CITY Established in 2007, Right to the City was born out of a desire by members, organizers, and allies around the country to have a stronger movement for urban justice. Right to the City Alliance asserts that everyone – particularly the disenfranchised – not only has a right to the city, but as inhabitants, have a right to shape it, design it, and operationalize an urban human rights agenda.

We are a national alliance of more than 90 community-based racial, economic, gender and environmental justice organizations growing grassroots power to halt gentrification and displacement, and build democratic, just, and sustainable communities. Our member organizations organize in 45 cities and 26 states to weave together local base-building, organizing, and policy campaigns to defend our neighborhoods and build a robust and unstoppable movement to reclaim, remain in, and rebuild our communities.

ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATIONAL WORK CULTURE We take the work seriously, but not ourselves: Right to the City is committed to a work culture of care and balance. We actively work to audit our policy and culture in service of our commitment to racial justice and feminist praxis. Principled struggle and generative conflict are core commitments and we take a transformative approach to resolving harm. While we take our commitments seriously, our work environment commonly includes jokes, laughter, celebration and all other manner of enjoyable human experiences.
