Council not only encompasses the management and improvement of physical assets such as roads, bridges, water supply, cemeteries and parks but also the Southland community's social, economic, cultural and environmental well-beings.Our 200+ staff are diverse in their backgrounds, skillset and location, spread across three Invercargill offices (Forth Street, 20 and 42 Don Street) and seven area offices situated at Riverton, Otautau, Te Anau, Winton, Oban, Lumsden and Wyndham.About the role:As part of the Strategy and Policy directorate, the environmental policy team is responsible for policy development and implementation of legislated changes to the District Plan, ensuring the district plan is maintained and legally robust along with the successful delivery of Council's vision for the future of Southland.As a senior environmental planner policy, you will be pivotal in bringing your extensive knowledge and experience to ensure we have undertaken robust research and analysis to enable Council to make sound decisions in relation to the District Plan.Day to day accountabilities will include, but not be limited to:Undertaking research, analysis and evaluation of the District PlanDrafting and presenting reports for consideration by hearing panels and councilRepresenting council on working parties, iwi liaison committees and public consultationsPreparing and coordinating submissions to the central governmentBuilding and maintaining effective relationships with colleagues and key stakeholdersOur ideal candidate will have a tertiary qualification in planning, resource management or environmental management and at least four years post-study policy-focused experience.
