The opportunity
The data team at Kami is in an exciting phase. Our company has been growing rapidly, extending an already high demand from our customers and colleagues for timely and high-quality data insights. We're scaling up our data infrastructure significantly to keep up, and we're looking for data engineers to join our team and support Kami's ambitious goals.
We're building up major new parts of our data stack, including new transformations and data models, and your contributions to these will have a lasting impact. They'll underpin the work of current and future team members in delivering insights for both internal stakeholders and the millions of passionate educators we count among our customers. Teachers already love our core product, and we believe data can open even more possibilities for their teaching practice! You'll play a major role in a growing team as we take on this exciting challenge.
Because our team supports both customers around the world and other teams within Kami, you'll get to work with a diverse range of people. What you'll do

Lead projects developing and maintaining data infrastructure, including data warehouses, pipelines, transformations and integrations
Lead projects designing and implementing data models to be building blocks that enable educational and business insights
Develop bespoke internal tools to provide access to data-based insights for colleagues and customers
Coach and mentor junior team members to develop their skill and instincts in data engineering
Provide technical leadership in the team to advance best practices in data engineering
Work closely with software engineers to understand and communicate requirements for usage data collection in our product
Work closely with data analysts in the team to understand requirements, propose designs and develop solutions to enable their work
Work closely with our sales, marketing and product teams to understand customer and business needs

What you'll bring

Track record successfully rolling out significant data engineering projects
Excellent (backend) software practice, including with source control and unit testing
Sound instinct for core principles of algorithms and data processing
Strong knowledge of practices in databases and data modelling
Eagerness to learn new languages, frameworks and technologies
Intellectual curiosity, humility and global-mindedness: we work with all kinds of educators and students from all over the world
Positive, can-do, eager-to-help attitude
Experience in other data and/or software roles is also advantageous
Experience or interest in education, sales and/or business analysis is a bonus

Our tech stack
We use ClickHouse, Kafka, Python, DBT Core, Dagster, Ruby on Rails and Google Cloud Platform. Experience with any or all of these is helpful but not necessary. We believe that any experience in comparable technologies will be just as valuable, and we'll bring the successful candidate up to speed with the tools we use.
