You will be an integral part of our team to provide support, advice, and guidance to our regulatory operations and wider Waka Kotahi teams that results in effective, efficient and fit for purpose operational implementation of regulatory and legislative settings.

You will also help to ensure that these are successfully transitioned and embedded into BAU by confirming ownership and appropriate renewal and maintenance schedules.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining consistently high standards
Ability to work under pressure without compromising quality, including managing demanding / high volume workloads and competing priorities
Sound judgement and ability to manage risk appropriately
Sound relationship management and negotiation skills
Ability to function independently and as part of a team
Knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Maori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Maori

You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
Ko wai matou - About us
As the lead regulator for land transport, our purpose is to ensure that the system is safe, efficient, effective and operates in the public interest.
Safety is a top priority for Waka Kotahi and we, as Te Ropu Waeture (the Regulatory Services group), aim to improve safety and reduce the risk of harm by being a firm and fair real-world regulator applying principles of good practice grounded in Te Ao Maori - Whakapono (Integrity), Manaakitanga (Caring for people), Whanaungatanga (Relationships), and Kotahitanga (Unity).
Being a real-world regulator means we take a systems view that is focused on improving safety outcomes and reducing harm. We work to understand why people behave the way they do and are pragmatic in how we respond, we encourage and educate to support people to comply and enforce compliance when necessary.
The Regulatory System Design group supports the regulator's role by ensuring clear policy, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory strategy are in place to deliver our regulatory functions.
The Regulatory Implementation team is the link between the creation and amendment of legislation and the regulatory operational teams and regulated parties.
Guided by risk, intelligence, and evidence, the Regulatory Implementation team's purpose is to take a systems view and work collaboratively and in partnership with our operational teams, industry and their Regulatory Standards and Implementation colleagues to facilitate the implementation and operationalisation of new and existing legislative settings.
Equally, the team is responsible for ensuring feedback loops are in place that see ineffective legislative settings being flagged where the desired outcome is not being realised.
Along with our other benefits, we also offer 5 weeks annual leave, access to Marram Trust holiday homes, and subsidised health insurance.
