Wellington based.This unique role contributes to the Financial Statements of Government and offers true professional development opportunities within an organisation committed to flexible working and authentic engagement.Mo te tunga - About the roleOur team facilitates the accounting, collection and disbursement of over $100 billion tax and $7.5 billion social policy payments on behalf of the Crown, manages the valuations for $30 billion of Crown assets and provides financial accounting advice and support across IR and the broader sector in relation to tax and social policy.Sitting within non-departmental accounting, the Principal Financial Accountant will gain a detailed understanding of Inland Revenue's accounting processes, the Crown functions managed by Inland Revenue, and the Treasury's reporting requirements.You'll be responsible for the following:Providing financial accounting advice, services and reporting across tax and social policy to ensure accurate Treasury reporting and to maximise the value of Crown assetsLeading data preparation for valuations, preparing Treasury and internal reporting, baseline update and appropriation processesBecoming a subject matter expert for our data, systems and frameworksIdentifying and analysing trends and financial risksLeading the mentoring and coaching of team members to contribute to the development of their capability and technical expertiseWorking with a range of customers including the Treasury internal business owners, valuers and auditorsThis position will suit someone looking to further enhance their knowledge, develop their experience, and progress within the team.To be successful, you will also possess the following attributes:Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence to clearly and effectively communicate with both external and internal customers at a senior levelStrong customer service focus and ability to quickly build effective working relationshipsStrong data analysis and analytical skills and an ability to turn data into actionable insightsA curious mindset with demonstrated ability to resolve complex challengesAbility to mentor/coach others to build capability and technical expertiseHighly motivated team player who enjoys working across both the immediate team, the broader Finance Services team, Inland Revenue and external stakeholdersSound planning and organisation skills, including the ability to work to deadlinesA minimum of eight years accounting experience, including strong financial accounting experience and basic knowledge of general tax principlesChartered Accountant (or equivalent recognised by CAANZ) qualificationTe Tari Taake Inland Revenue plays a critical role in improving the economic and social wellbeing of Aotearoa New Zealand.The Finance Services group delivers finance services to support the efficient and effective use of resources, the stewardship of assets, and to build financial management capability.We are committed to keeping to the Treaty of Waitangi's guiding principles in our work for and with Maori customers and our employees, their whanau, hapu and iwi.
