Our structure comprises six key business units: Corporate Services, Integrated Catchment Management, Asset Management, Maori Partnerships, Policy & Regulation, and the Executive Advisory Group, which also consists of the Civil Defence and Emergency Management.
Our Asset Management Group is responsible for looking after a diverse portfolio of river and coastal engineering, flood scheme operations and maintenance, and the regional park network.
About The Opportunity | Ko te aheinga:This vital leadership role will take responsibility for ensuring the effective day-to-day management of the Regional Asset function at HBRC. Team leadership will be your passion, as will coaching, mentoring, and developing others—active contribution to a positive culture will come naturally to you. As a leader, you will set strategic direction for the Council's engineering function, including our work around modelling for river and coastal processes, managing and maintaining flood mitigation schemes, and overseeing our regional parks. Alongside all of this, you will lead the transition to a modern asset management approach aligned to ISO-55000, ensuring effective coordination and integration of all operational delivery, asset management planning, and capital program management.

About You | E pa ana ki a koe:We need a motivated and enthusiastic person who can hit the ground running in this busy and dynamic role. Having the skills to actively engage a variety of internal and external stakeholders will be essential to success! As a leader, you will be expected to positively lead the team, offer support, coaching, and professional development opportunities to ensure their work meets the requirements of high-quality, efficient, and effective delivery. A strong ability to self-manage with a drive for continuous improvement and the motivation to learn will serve you well in this position.
Ideally, you will also have:
Relevant Bachelor's degree or equivalent tertiary qualification.At least 10 years' experience in a local government, utility, or engineering consultancy organisation.At least 10 years' experience in river or coastal processes/engineering/hydrology.Experience in Asset Management with either NAMS, IIMM, or ISO55000 standard.Experience in strategic management in an infrastructure organisation.Experience in leading a team in either an operations or asset management environment.Experience in the development of either service delivery or asset management plans.Knowledge of project management practices.The salary range for this role will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
