When the water is healthy, the land and the people are healthy Watercare is the largest water and wastewater utility in New Zealand, supplying more than 400 million litres of water to Auckland every day. Now is an exciting time to join Watercare; we're planning to spend $18.5 billion over the next 20 years to ensure we can continue to support our growing city in a climate-resilient way. When you average that out, that's an investment of $2.5 million every day. We ensure that sustainability lies at the heart of everything that we do to help protect our water resources for future generations. This means that we are continuously focused on how we can reduce our carbon footprint with initiatives like solar panels, electric cars, revegetation programmes, and much more. We really are a company that wants to make a positive difference. We are looking for a principal architect to lead and drive architectural excellence for a selection of Watercare's digital domains, creating simple, flexible, secure, and sustainable solutions which drive our business towards realizing its objectives. In this role, you will lead the definition and delivery of architecture across several capability domains, engaging business stakeholders in defining and realizing their business ambitions through a shared view of their strategy, current state, evolutionary states, and the roadmaps that support this. You will provide direction to technical teams, vendor resources, and solution architects working within your domains to help achieve the roadmap associated with the domains you're responsible for. You will report to the head of architecture and work closely with key counterparts in digital and business teams to support us in working on the right things at the right time. Within the overall architecture community, you will help drive process improvement across the design and delivery lifecycle to further accelerate our team goals. Develop roadmaps with your key stakeholders. Support planning for roadmap delivery by providing guidance on sequencing, resourcing, delivery timeframes, and ongoing support needs. Ensure we are creating a sustainable architecture by documenting architecture, decisions, rationales, and supporting artifacts to support both delivery and future change. Align across domains through participation within our architecture processes and strong collaboration with peers to assure effective outcomes for Watercare. Provide technical guidance and leadership, supporting and enabling Watercare's solution architects and technical specialists to grow and succeed, ensuring quality outcomes from our contract and vendor resources. Drive process improvement and adoption across the architecture and wider digital teams. Share technical knowledge with the wider digital team, supporting long-term growth and development of our people. Skills and Experience: Proven success in providing solution architecture expertise for complex projects or large programmes. Experience in developing domain roadmaps and guiding subsequent delivery activities to achieve those roadmaps. Experience in providing technical leadership and coaching within architecture and the wider digital team. Experience working with business leaders to understand and articulate the business outcomes required to support Watercare, converting these into technical deliverables. Bring energy, enthusiasm, and creativity to your practice, pushing the boundaries of what is possible, challenging the status quo, and delighting stakeholders.
