Te Haeata/The Opportunity

The Ministerial Services team provides timely, comprehensive, and tailored Ministerial services, including the release of information to Ministers and Parliament, and responses to parliamentary, customer, and public requests for information.

The Principal Advisor plays a critical role in this team, managing the team's project work, including actions related to the Ombudsman's Official Information Act compliance and practice investigation. Extensive knowledge of, and experience working with, relevant legislation and machinery of government is essential.

The Principal Advisor will also provide support to the management team and assist in building correspondence capability within the team and across the Ministry.

You must have a strong service ethic and a positive attitude, taking ownership of your work and driving it through delivery. The role requires the ability to prioritize and reprioritize a busy, fast-paced work programme and to be comfortable dealing with a reasonable level of ambiguity. You will need to see the bigger picture and make connections across work areas.

The role is highly collaborative, requiring the confidence to develop and manage relationships at all levels across the Ministry. You will develop trust and credibility with others and be a positive role model for others in the team and for our customers across the Ministry.

Our ideal candidate will have:

extensive knowledge of Ministerial and Parliamentary processes, and legislation governing access to official information

expert relationship management skills and the ability to partner effectively with leaders, establishing credibility and trust

superior written and oral communication skills

energy to thrive in a fast-paced and time-bound environment, with a positive 'can-do' attitude

a collaborative working style with a focus on providing excellence in your own work, as well as the ability to lead others to shared success

at least seven years of experience working in the public service.

Utu a-tau/ Salary

The appointing salary for this role will be between $110,766 and $154,680 based on skills and experience.
