This team is focused on looking at MSD's role and responsibilities to disabled people and carers within the Social Development and Employment ministerial portfolio. This includes delivering key Government manifesto commitments around health and disability related benefits, looking at ways in which MSD can support disabled people into suitable employment and considering the interactions between MSD's supports and the wider ecosystem of disability related supports. You will support the disability policy team to deliver timely and quality policy advice to the Minister for Social Development and Employment, as well as engaging with stakeholders across MSD, the wider public service, and communities of disabled people and those who support them, and others. The work programme contributes to the broader objectives of the Policy Branch, the work of the Ministry and the priorities of the Government.You will be responsible for leading a team of 6 policy analysts. You will develop and maximise the capability of your team members, providing them with opportunities to grow their skills, knowledge and confidence. You and your team will have the professional support of a Principal Policy Analyst to ensure the work is of a high standard and complex processes or strategic issues are well managed. The team sits within the International, Disability, and Generational Policy group, alongside the Office for Seniors, and policy teams focused on Older People, Children and Youth, and International policy and you will report to the General Manager of that group.Things we are looking for in applicantsExperience leading in a strategic environment and building relationships across a variety of stakeholdersExperience producing and recognising high quality policy workExperience developing and managing high performing teams, with a focus on fostering a supportive team cultureDeveloped skills in building the performance of individuals through coaching and attention to professional developmentAn appropriate tertiary qualification or considerable, relevant practical experienceKnowledge and confidence in one or more areas of social policyA good understanding of policy implementation and the issues likely to impact on itCommitment to further strengthening the Maori/Crown relationship in ways such as building your own and your team's competencies in Te Tiriti analysis, employing appropriate engagement methods and consideration/application of frameworks such as whanau centred and Kaupapa MaoriKnowledge, experience or expertise in disability related issues or community development would be a great assetThis team is part of a busy Policy Branch.
