People, Systems, Data and Payroll Manager at Department of Conservation, WellingtonLead innovation in HR systems and drive process improvements.Crucial leadership role that will help shape the future of our People and Culture function.Permanent role based in Wellington.Our vision: Nature is thriving in Aotearoa | Te Oranga o te Ao Turoa The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and restore nature spaces and species across Aotearoa.
This is a newly created role reporting to the Chief People Officer and is responsible for leading the development, improvement and integration, and optimisation of payroll and HRIS systems, managing HR data, and running the HR Service Hub to support a great people experience lifecycle. You will be responsible for managing the integration of new or updated systems, ensuring payroll operations remain effective throughout these changes. Additionally, you will oversee the Payroll and HRIS systems post-implementation, ensure compliance with relevant legislation, drive improvements in HR technology infrastructure, and manage the integration, effectiveness, and efficiency of the People and Culture (P&C) Support Hub.
You will guide and inspire your team, creating a collaborative and supportive culture. You'll establish clear goals, develop skills, and continuously motivate the team to focus on people-centred, efficient, and streamlined processes. You will utilise your excellent people skills to proactively lead stakeholder relationships; collaborate with IT and external vendors to ensure HR systems are integrated and functioning optimally.

To be successful, you'll bring the following skills and experience:
Experience in leading and managing payroll and HR systems development and operations.Relevant tertiary qualification in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources or equivalent related knowledge.Deep understanding of payroll legislation and processes, along with comprehensive knowledge HRIS systems, functions, and processes.Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.Strong problem-solving abilities and experience with troubleshooting technical issues.Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines.Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.Ability to challenge existing processes and drive technological innovation.Proven leadership skills to develop and motivate a team.Apply online with a CV and cover letter that highlights your relevant skills, experience and motivation for joining Te Papa Atawhai.
