Role Purpose

We are looking for a motivated, reliable and organized Paint Shop Foreman (full time) to join our team to help us take our business to the next level. It is a full hands-on role with a focus on ensuring consistent output of paint and refinish work that meet expectations of quality, timeframe and number of repair jobs produced. Extensive experience in automotive spray painting is essential.

Our ideal applicant must have at least 10 years' experience in automotive spray painting, have been working in a similar role, with proven ability to supervise and lead the team, follow processes, use initiative, work proactively and strive for excellence in all areas of work. You will need to be a team player and highly skilled professional. We require someone with excellent people skills who has up-to-date working knowledge of standard methods, practices and materials used in automotive spray painting and refinish.

The position provides full support to Production Manager and Estimators to ensure efficient, productive and smooth operations, and hands-on assistance to Technicians to achieve their targets.

The right candidate must have aptitude to multi-task, be effective communicator, possess professional etiquette, have attention to detail and sense of urgency. You will be working within a busy and challenging environment, organizing tasks for technicians, controlling workflow, output and quality, while dealing with a wide variety of tasks.

We Offer

Commencement Date: As soon as possible OR on Work Visa approval by Immigration NZ

Location: South Auckland

Contract Type: Waged, Full Time, Permanent (minimum of 30 hours/week – maximum 60 hours/week)

Work Hours: Morning Shift 6am – 1pm or Afternoon Shift 1pm – 8pm (Monday to Friday)

Wages Details: $30 - 35 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities

In this role you will be responsible for carrying out on daily basis:

Always follow the Standard Operating Procedures – SOP (if applicable)

Understand expectations of quality, timeframe and quantity

Understand and meet role's performance expectations

Read and understand instructions, measurements and specifications

Provide assistance to Production Manager where necessary

Organize and manage a smooth and continuous workflow to ensure consistent output of quality paint and refinish work within agreed timeframe

Job assignments, scheduling, and prioritization of tasks to ensure timely completion of work

Oversee a team of Technicians working on vehicle priming and spray painting

Lead, train, supervise the team of Technicians

Hands-on assistance to Technicians to perform priming and spray painting in accurate and timely manner according to industry standards and working practises

Monitor and inspect the quality of spray painting work to ensure that it meets industry standards and manufacturer specifications. This includes checking for proper color matching, finish, and overall appearance.

Endeavour to complete all tasks within specified timeframe and report to the Production Manager any delays

Delegate and oversee priming, spray painting and refinishing of vehicles and provide technical expertise and guidance on complex tasks, including masking, priming, paint mixing, spray painting, etc.

Ensure all technicians are productive, efficient and are working to their full potential

Maintain workshop consumables and inventory stock levels (report to Production Manager)

Identify and rectify any waste occurring with consumables

Organise and maintain the Stock Room and Paint Mixing Room tidy and in order

Oversee the inventory and supplies needed for priming, spray painting and refinish, ensuring that materials are available and managing stock levels

Liaise with the Estimators and Production Manager to ensure production schedules are adhered to

Timely report any arising issues, queries and problems to Production Manager

Ensure that corrective actions are taken and monitor to check they are effective

Inspect every vehicle for any panel defects and issues prior to spray painting (if defects cannot be rectified within 1 hr – return the vehicle to Panel Shop)

Check and collect completed Job Cards and issue new Job Cards to technicians

Ensure work is competed according to the instructions on the Job Card

Ensure all additional and extra repairs are reported and recorded (take photos as required)

Carry out quality checks at each critical step of the process and ensure identified defects are corrected immediately

Inspecting each finished work for proper color matching, finish, and overall appearance

Ensure that all repairs meet industry standards and adhere to manufacturer specifications

Immediately report sub-standard job quality to Production Manager

Complete Final Quality Check of each finished work prior to a vehicle being released from the Paint Shop and sign off to confirm the paint meets the required standard

Contribute to the development and continual improvement of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

Ensure adequate maintenance of tools, equipment and other materials in the workshop

Follow maintenance schedule and report any required repairs to Production Manager

Assist parts and vehicles pick-ups and deliveries (if and when required)

Ensure vehicles are tidily and neatly parked and organized in designated area

Ensure technicians keep their work area clean and tidy at all times

Arrange and control daily workshop cleaning

Maintain a clean and safe environment for all workers

Continually expand knowledge of the role, relevant products and services

Assist in the training and induction of other employees

Comply with Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times

Contribute to improving and maintaining the Health & Safety System

Ensure technicians wear appropriate PPE

Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with safety regulations and industry best practices

Report and record all accidents, incidents or near misses. Report hazards or potential hazards

Maintain a good working relationship with colleagues and management

Ensure that you are fully conversant with Company Rules, Code of Ethics and Standard Operating Procedures and that you make yourself aware of any updates

Adhere to company policy, procedures, and standards

Maintain a professional image through a high standard of appearance, behaviour and presentation

Attend team meetings and training sessions during or outside working hours

Follow and carry out all reasonable instructions from Production Manager

Experience and Qualifications

10+ years of continuous experience in the Automotive Body Repairs (Spray Painting)

Relevant Trade Qualification, preferably NZ (or the ability to prove competency and experience)

Previous supervisory, foreman experience is a must

In-depth knowledge of spray painting techniques, surface preparation, paint mixing and application, and curing processes

Strong leadership skills to effectively manage and motivate a team of technicians

Ability to diagnose complex spray paint issues and provide effective solutions

Good communication skills for interacting with staff, customers, and other departments

Keen attention to detail to ensure that all repairs meet high-quality standards

Technically competent

Clean and valid Full Driver Licence

Able to drive vehicles with automatic and manual transmission

Strong work ethics and quality workmanship

Strong commitment to Health and Safety

Good verbal and written command of English

High integrity and professionalism

Strong interpersonal skills

Remuneration will be according to experience and qualifications.
