Manage contractor-led operations in a vibrant, scenic city.
Lead network compliance & HSE in Nelson's stunning surroundings.
Enjoy work-life balance with no after-hours roster.
About the Role: Nelson Electricity, a leading network company based in the heart of the stunning Nelson/Tasman Region, is seeking a dynamic Network Operations Manager. Our size doesn't define us. We're compact, yes, but we face the challenges of a large network with gusto.
This opportunity has arisen due to the upcoming retirement of the current manager, offering a unique chance to gain valuable insights from a seasoned professional before taking the reins. The role focuses on overseeing the day-to-day operations of our network, with a strong emphasis on managing contractors who carry out all operational work. While you will not be on any after-hours roster, you may occasionally be called upon in emergency situations, though these instances are rare.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage all aspects of the NEL network's operational works, with a focus on contractor and consultant oversight, ensuring all activities meet our high standards of safety, compliance, and efficiency.
A leader in health, safety and wellbeing for NEL.
Prepare and manage operational budgets, ensuring all expenditures align with the approved asset management plan.
Oversee network compliance, including regular auditing and reporting, to ensure all regulatory requirements are consistently met.
Coordinate planned network shutdowns with contractors, ensuring minimal disruption to customers.
Handle commercial aspects of network operations, including contract negotiations and management, ensuring cost-effectiveness and value for NEL.
Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including electricity retailers, Transpower, Nelson City Council, and major customers, ensuring excellent service delivery.
About You:
Extensive experience in the electrical industry, with a strong background in managing contractors.
Proven commercial acumen, with experience in budgeting, contract management, and financial oversight.
Strong knowledge of network system protection, load management, and electricity regulations.
Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with a focus on customer service and stakeholder engagement.
A proactive approach to health and safety, ensuring all operations adhere to the highest standards.
Why Join Us?
Knowledge Transfer: Gain valuable insights from the outgoing manager, ensuring a smooth transition into this critical role.
Work-Life Balance: With no after-hours roster, enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing your role focuses on daytime operations, with emergency call-outs being a rare occurrence.
Location: Nelson is a beautiful and vibrant city, surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, including Abel Tasman National Park and picturesque beaches. The city offers a relaxed lifestyle with excellent schools, short commutes, and a warm, welcoming community.
Relocation Support: We offer relocation assistance to help you settle into this incredible part of New Zealand. However, you must have the right to work in New Zealand to be considered for this role.
About Nelson Electricity Limited: Nelson Electricity Limited operates the electricity distribution network in central Nelson city. Our network covers a concentrated area of 24 square kilometres and includes residential and commercial connections. We are committed to delivering reliable and efficient electricity services to our customers while fostering innovation and sustainability within our operations.
How to Apply: If you are ready to take on this exciting challenge and lead the network operations at Nelson Electricity, we encourage you to apply. Please submit your CV and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience and why you are the ideal candidate for this role.
Application Deadline: COB 27th September 2024 (we reserve the right to bring strong applicants through to interview before this date)
