About the Team:
The National Support & Maintenance business unit forms part of the wider Technology Group. The National Systems Specialists are a small tight-knit team responsible for ensuring that our aviation technology continues to keep NZ's domestic and international flights safe and on-time. This includes communications, navigation, surveillance, and air traffic management systems, their supporting networks and infrastructure, as well as their respective monitoring, observability, and control systems.
This team exists to ensure all aspects of service reliability are considered and Airways' technology services are supportable for their entire life, driven by our unbridled passion for our customers. We strive to make reliability the number one requirement for our services, and then deliver on this requirement for Airways.
About the Role:
As a National Systems Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability and availability of our systems and services. This will see you work closely with different teams to ensure our systems are designed and operated in a way that meets our high availability and performance standards.
You will ensure new services will be reliable and supportable as well as transition into operation smoothly through:
Participating in the design and development of new services.Designing and implementing monitoring and observability solutions.Creating system information and documentation.Configuring technology services to meet our customers' requirements.Providing On-The-Job training to our first-line support staff.Additionally, you'll maintain the reliability and supportability of current systems throughout their operational life by:
Assisting with complex issues that cannot be resolved by our first-line support teams.Maintaining system information and documentation.Managing the configuration of technology services.Continuously improving our systems and services.Identifying and mitigating potential risks and impacts to service.Your tools of trade will be your brain, keyboard, and voice, but you may end up doing some hands-on installation and setup work from time to time.
About You:
This role is well suited to out-of-the-box thinkers, who can apply a system engineering approach to a wide variety of challenges. The systems and services you will be dealing with span a wide range of technologies with varying levels of complexity.
To be successful, you will have:
A relevant tertiary qualification, industry certifications, or equivalent experience.A good understanding of a wide range of technologies, and capable of understanding not only how the technology functions, but how it is used and where it fits into the business.Ability and comfort challenging ideas and speaking up in group discussions.Confidence needed to interact with both internal and external customers.Motivation to learn and seek out the information needed to deliver at the highest quality and standard.Desirable: Preference will be provided to candidates who hold at least one of the following:
Knowledge of radio, network, and compute infrastructure, including virtualised network and compute functions.Experience with Linux/UNIX based systems and configuration.Experience working with safety-critical and mission-critical systems.Experience working in a service-based organisation (SaaS provider, internet provider, etc).Systems-level knowledge of Air Navigation Systems and Air Traffic Management equipment.About Our Offering:
