The role:
Reporting to the Lead – Tikanga & Governance, the Kaiwhakahaere Matauranga Maori is responsible for developing, implementing, and embedding Matauranga Maori across the organisation. This role will be enabled to build strategic relationships with Maori stakeholders to advise, guide and support the development of critical frameworks and methodologies that benefit whanau Maori.
About you:
In this role you will bring your passion for working in a whakapapa based, kaupapa Maori and te ao Maori environment where you will be trusted to apply your unique knowledge of matauranga Maori to contribute to the strategic and cultural direction of a fast-paced and dynamic Hauora Maori organisation.
You will be fluent in te reo me ona tikanga and will have lived experience working in Te Ao Maori with established iwi, hapu and kaupapa Maori networks, utilising national and regional relationships to assist with building and promoting the kaupapa of NHC.
You will be personable, adaptable and highly organised and able to work autonomously, attuned to a Maori way of working while navigating through complex situations effectively. You are sensible and reflect the ngakau, values and moemoea of the Trustees.
Desired experience:
Fluent and active in te reo me ona Tikanga
Ability to articulate and actualise Tikanga concepts
High level of experience and handling of confidential materials and matters
Active and effective relationships with mana whenua, hapu, iwi and key Maori stakeholders, including community agencies and services
Knowledge and understanding of te ao Maori particularly as it relates to kawa and Governance meetings, powhiri and whakatau.
Ability to articulate and navigate whaikorero
Comfortable navigating Iwi politics and arohe differences
