As the Manager Strategic Engagement, you will lead a small team responsible for assisting Fisheries New Zealand to strengthen its relationships with key partners and external stakeholders. You will ensure that the Fisheries New Zealand's leadership team has visibility of key stakeholder engagement activity, risks, and opportunities, develop engagement strategies and plans for major programmes of work, lead the development of briefing material for ministerial engagement with sector stakeholders, and deliver Fisheries New Zealand events.
To deliver the outcomes required of this position, you will build collaborative relationships and establish credibility with iwi, sector stakeholders, and partners across Fisheries New Zealand, MPI, other New Zealand government agencies, service providers, and other parties. You will use data and insights to report on the effectiveness of Fisheries New Zealand's engagement performance and drive innovation throughout the engagement life cycle.
To be successful in this role you will need:
Demonstrated experience in engagement and relationship management at a strategic levelPrevious experience working within GovernmentExceptional communication skills and the ability to build trust and credibility quicklyProven ability to build a collaborative team and foster a high performing team environmentTrack record in relationship management across a range of groups and individuals with potentially conflicting interestsFamiliarity with the sector and the legislation relating to fisheries and aquaculture and Maori, including the Treaty of Waitangi would be an advantage.

This is a close-knit team based in Wellington. This role reports to the Director Strategy and Engagement. You will lead two Senior Advisers and work closely with MPI's Public Affairs Team.
