Literacy Support Coordinator

Our vision at Whangarei Girls' High School is to empower and uplift the young women of Whangarei and their families.
This role involves developing and running an effective literacy support programme to lift the literacy levels of identified akonga. The literacy coordinator will develop a cohesive team to deliver the programme alongside them. They will manage the resourcing and staffing of the programme, as well as the allocation of learners to groups within it. They will be the key contact for the whanau of the akonga within the programme in relation to their literacy progress. Relevant experience supporting literacy, using structured literacy practices, developing a programme, and leading a team would be an advantage.
As a member of the Learning Support Department, Te Puna Matauranga, the literacy support coordinator will, from time to time, collegially support the wider team by supporting students with specific learning needs, both in classrooms, one-on-one and in small groups, as required.
Candidates will have excellent communication skills, enjoy working cooperatively, and building positive effective relationships with students and staff. They must be able to relate well with teenage girls and be able to work in a bicultural environment, with initiative and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
This is a Permanent position starting in the 2025 year.
Hours of work are 8.30 am to 3.15 pm, Monday to Friday during term time only.
Starting date 28 January 2025.
A Police Vet is mandatory.
