About us The Whangarei Central Library provides a full range of library services and activities for all ages, in the heart of our CBD, with branches at Kamo, Onerahi, Tikipunga, plus a mobile library. Hosting over 200,000 items, ranging from books to movies, magazines and newspapers as well as eBooks and online resources; our libraries offer community-based services our district can be truly proud of!
Who are we looking for? We have an opportunity for a customer-focused librarian with a passion for delivering innovative library services to our community. This is a fast-paced role and will really suit an individual with great energy and a 'can do' attitude. On a day-to-day basis, you will enjoy variety in the role, whether it be assisting Library customers with their queries, delivering library services and activities, or riding the mobile library bus to visit tamariki in schools! Although our candidate need not necessarily have worked in a Library before, we would be keen to work with candidates who have a genuine interest in knowledge and literacy and the role Libraries serve in our community.
To be successful in this role, you will be able to confidently relate to people of all ages and cultures whilst balancing different priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. A personal connection to and appreciation of the important role of libraries in supporting the social and economic wellbeing of our community would also be an advantage.
Key skills and competencies: Strong interpersonal skillsGood learning agility with strong I.T. acumenAn ability to work well within a team environmentPersonal vehicle with a full, clean driver licenceCreative and innovative thinkingTechnology skills, for example familiarity with 3D printing, coding, gadgetsIdeally, we will be looking for candidates who can also demonstrate flexibility as some weekend work may be required on a rostered basis.
