Kaiwhakahaere | Executive Officer The New Zealand Council of Christian Social Services (NZCCSS) works for a just and compassionate society in Aotearoa New Zealand. NZCCSS has six members: the Anglican, Baptist, Catholic and Presbyterian social service agencies, as well as the Methodist and the Salvation Army churches.

Mo te turanga | About the role The role of Kaiwhakahaere – Executive Officer at NZCCSS offers a unique and impactful opportunity to lead an organisation at the forefront of social justice in Aotearoa New Zealand. We are seeking a visionary leader with strategic insight, a deep commitment to social justice, and the ability to advocate on behalf of marginalised communities, particularly in areas such as child and family welfare, poverty, exclusion, and elder care.

Key responsibilities include: Strategic Leadership: Guiding the Secretariat team and the broader work programme of the Council, ensuring that policy advice on critical social issues is developed and effectively communicated.

Policy Advocacy: Representing NZCCSS's policy positions to government and other stakeholders through submissions, meetings, and events.

Relationship Building: Engaging with key stakeholders across sectors, including government, member organisations, the voluntary sector, and the community.

Communications Oversight: Working closely with the Communications Advisor to ensure NZCCSS's messaging is clear, strong, and effectively communicates its mission to stakeholders.

Resource Development: Identifying new funding opportunities and ensuring the sustainability of the organisation through effective fundraising and subscription management.

Mou ake | About you The ideal candidate will have:

A passion for social justice and a demonstrated ability to lead with empathy and vision. Expertise in strategy and policy development, with an ability to influence and advocate effectively at all levels. Strong financial management skills and experience in overseeing funding agreements and member subscriptions Experience in building and nurturing relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government, NGOs, and community organisations. A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a deep understanding of its implications in a social services context. Salary: $145,000 to $160,000 per annum

Location: Wellington preferred

Hours of work: This is a full-time position that offers genuine flexibility and hybrid working options.
