We have an exciting new role, and we're looking for a dedicated and passionate team member to join us. This is an opportunity to forge a new pathway for the Recreation, Sports & Events Unit within Christchurch City Council. You will be part of the Active Communities Team, that aims to break down barriers to participation in physical activity whether that is through sport or active recreation. You will be improving equity and health outcomes of Maori and other priority groups through the lens of physical activity. The council has a growing network of facilities, with Parakiore coming on board next year, and you will be part of creating spaces that are welcoming to everyone. The Recreation, Sports and Events Unit helps people to feel good, healthy and happy every day - building strong hearts, strong whanau and strong communities. Te Arotahi Matu: The role As a Maori Active Communities Lead, you'll be culturally aware and walk alongside Maori to: Develop and foster sustainable, collaborative partnerships, that support change and empower Maori, vulnerable to inactivity, to adopt and maintain active lifestyles. Lead and implement initiatives, either in the community or within the unit, that aim to increase physical activity levels within higher risk populations of Maori. Provide a kaupapa Maori lens on other priority populations e.g. rangitahi, tangata whaikaha, kaumatua, tamariki, and assist with the development and implementation of projects. Address health disparities and promote hauora by tailoring strategies to the cultural context and unique needs of Maori and other priority populations. Share knowledge and advice promoting awareness of resources, programmes and services, available to Maori and the community. About you: Ideally, you will have worked in a large kaupapa Maori organisation or a Maori advisory position and have already built strong network relationships across Otautahi. You will have strong communication skills, as relationship building is a large part of this role. To meet the challenges of this role, you will: Have a minimum of 5 years' experience in community development, engagement or advisory processes. Demonstrate full competence in Te Reo - verbal and written. A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Hold a current full New Zealand driver's licence.
