Dealing with the death of a loved one is one of the most devastating and traumatic experiences one can go through. It is the job of our Cemeteries Support team to make sure that the public's experience and the process they go through to ensure they pay their last respects through a burial, is handled in a sensitive, timely, professional and empathetic manner.
Working in collaboration with Funeral Directors, members of the public and the city's Sextons, you'll manage the end to end process in dealing with all manner of queries relating to cemeteries. This includes requests for interments (burials), processing applications for plot purchases, taking into consideration cultural courtesy, genealogy queries and managing general enquiries from our busy inbox. With 27 cemeteries across the city, this is a varied role and when we say no two days are the same, we mean it.
Administrative support is key to this role, including processing and maintaining detailed records. Your experience here is important, but perhaps more important is your ability to bring your life experience and a level of maturity to this role. We're working in a highly emotive environment so understandably dealing with people in a distressed state.
The ability to have an empathetic ear both at the end of the phone and face-to-face is crucial, you will also bring the gift of being able to separate your emotions and take a methodical approach to the situation - ensuring a satisfactory outcome to the request.
While Cemeteries work will always be your priority, your flexibility and adaptability to assist in other areas of Business Support will be required on an as-needed basis.
Perhaps you come from a career as a caregiver, in social work, or a first response emergency service environment. Or, you're experienced in an office environment and are looking to combine this with your people skills and natural ability to empathise.
