Mo te turanga mahi About the role The Climate Change Chief Executives Board has been established as an Interdepartmental Executives Board. Its function is to support delivery of the Government's climate priorities and coordinate reporting on the implementation of cross-agency actions and strategies on climate change, including the implementation of the Emissions Reduction Plan and National Adaptation Plan. It monitors, reports and advises the Climate Priorities Ministerial Group on progress at the economy wide level. We are looking for an experienced Chief Advisor or Principal Advisor who would appreciate the opportunity to step into a Chief Advisor role to work closely alongside the Acting Executive Director to lead and support the team's work programme. You will provide intellectual leadership across the Board's work, providing high-quality advice to lead Ministers on complex and potentially contentious areas that can impact Aotearoa New Zealand's environmental, economic, social and cultural outcomes. You will play a key role in ensuring cross-agency climate objectives are delivered and the Government is supported in making well informed, evidence-based decisions. This is a temporary role, covering for the permanent Chief Advisor who is acting in the Executive Director role. Nga pukenga me nga wheako Skills and experience Expert policy leadership experience Intellectually sharp, capable, and agile; you will lead, influence and manoeuvre through complex interagency and political situations effectively Political savvy in terms of tact, discretion and diplomacy A deep understanding of climate change policy and advice, and the systems, sectors and actors involved in climate mitigation and adaptation Experience leading and delivering complex policy work programmes across government, involving external partners and stakeholders, and an ability to understand complex data and distil key messages for decision-makers Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and confidence to challenge the status quo Understanding how policy changes impact people on the ground, especially Maori, iwi and our communities An ability to apply Maori worldviews in a way that makes a meaningful difference to policy advice, implementation, partnerships, and relationships with others, and commitment to developing cultural capability and capacity in te ao Maori Experience in economic policy and/or modelling would be useful. Whanuitanga Utu a-Tau Salary range The salary range for this role is $198,483 to $240,501 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
