Te whiwhinga mahi| The Opportunity The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
We have a permanent, full-time opportunity available to join our regional team as Kaitataki, Group Manager, Community and Whanau Wellbeing. The primary purpose of this role is to lead a team of teams, including Public Health Nurses, Health Promotors, Smoking Cessation Practitioners, Kaiawhina, Vision and Hearing Technicians to deliver public health services that focus on community and whanau wellbeing. You will foster a way of working that is aligned with, and will deliver, Pae Ora. You will also work alongside leadership to deliver the organisational priorities of Health NZ, meeting performance requirements and to drive continuous improvement in processes and practices within the team.
You are an experienced leader with proven experience in building capability and lifting performance of a team/unit. You will be able to deliver on programmes of work in a complex environment and be involved in developing and implementing effective group strategies. You're comfortable with change and uncertainty and have proven relationships with iwi/hapu and/or Pacific communities and leaders.
A relevant graduate qualification in an area relevant to health promotion, education, disease prevention, Maori or Pacific Health, community development, and/or public health or comparable/extensive experience working at a senior leadership levelSignificant experience in a senior level position with a wide span of control and leading leaders, including proven experience in coaching, mentoring, and managing teamsExperience in health promotion and/or disease prevention is advantageousAble to think, plan and act strategically and to connect with and inspire people to build a highly motivated and engaged workforceDemonstrated understanding of organisational risk and compliance, legal and regulatory requirements regarding relevant regulations and standards in New Zealand5 years' experience in varied environments with responsibilities for achieving equitable health outcomes and responsive to Te Tiriti o WaitangiExtensive operational and people management experience for managing a significant division of the organisationDemonstrated mature communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write and present in a clear, persuasive, and impactful way, to influence others to embrace change, and to develop, unify and maintain strong internal and external relationships essential for achieving sustainable outcomesA commitment to being a good Te Tiriti partner in all your actions.
