About the Business Jeff Farm Trust was gifted to The Salvation Army in 1954 by owners Edmund Sanderson and Maud Jeff.
They wished for the property to be used for training young people in agriculture.
Jeff Farm is 2,433ha property carrying approximately 30,000 stock units made up of sheep, beef and deer located 21km East of Gore in Southland.
The farm is also home to five farm trainees on a two year cadetship course.
The cadet training is a big part of the operation to ensure the terms of the trust deed are met and is supported by seven permanent staff.
About the role The Head Shepherd's primary role will be to support management in all farming operations, including animal and pasture production.
The Head Shepherd will take an active leadership role in training cadets in necessary farm skills.
The Head Shepherd will be expected to contribute to and implement systems and processes required to attain budgeted production.
What will your responsibilities be: General stock work - sheep, beef and deer Implementing planned daily tasks around pasture and feed management, stock rotations and animal health To lead, supervise and direct cadets as required Some farm maintenance and tractor driving maybe required from time to time Our ideal candidate will: be mature with a can-do attitude and a minimum of three years farming experience be highly organised, a competent planner who communicates openly and often enjoy working in a team environment be well presented and take pride in their work be health and safety conscious and proactive have a quality team of well-mannered dogs (4-6) have a willingness to share their own knowledge and experience be committed to self-development and career growth have leadership qualities, initiative and excellent stockmanship have a full NZ driver's licence.
