The New Zealand government uses regulation to protect communities from harm, and to improve outcomes for its people. Our job is to help improve the overall quality of regulation – and the way it is implemented – by working across the public service with experts in their fields.
About the Team The Reviews and System Capability business group serves as an integrated, professional, and thought-leading advisory group to the government. The business group is responsible for strategically and operationally leading key programmes of work by uplifting regulatory system capability using a variety of interventions and mechanisms; and improving regulation and regulatory systems by undertaking targeted reviews of varying scope and scale.
About the Role As the Head of Regulatory System Capability, you will lead a team of advisors, who assist in improvements of regulatory practice and the building of capabilities within a complex and ever-changing environment. Drawing on your leadership experience, you will influence regulatory agencies to identify opportunities to drive change, advancing the Ministry's broader responsibilities and strategic objectives, including effectively guiding and managing change initiatives.
About you You will bring with you:
Significant regulatory experience and expertise within the regulatory sector Demonstrated experience as a people leader committed to building meaningful team relationships while leading teams through complex policy and regulatory challenges Sound judgement and political nous Proven experience collaborating with executive stakeholders to maintain trusted relationships A passion in driving professional development of team members Experience building strong cross-agency and system connections that achieve enhanced outcomes and drive broader regulatory ambition and excellence.
