Our Personal Banking Product division is looking for an accomplished leader to take on the role of Head of Product Governance and Capability, following a recent promotion.
Te Turanga | The role:
In this role, you will oversee risk and compliance governance across Personal Products, providing both technical guidance and leadership to our team of product managers. You will also lead the uplift of processes and controls to meet new regulatory requirements and address certain risks. Your expertise will ensure that the Product Practice is well-versed in product governance, while fostering collaboration with stakeholders to effectively manage risks throughout the product value chains.
You will also lead the uplift of the product management craft, ensuring the team possesses the skills necessary for success, have clear development paths, and that talent is effectively being managed. By regularly engaging with stakeholders, you will highlight the positive business outcomes achieved through your team's efforts, ensuring clarity and alignment within the Practice and Product Leadership Team.
As part of your responsibilities, you'll develop and implement comprehensive policies, processes, and tools to manage common risks across products. You will lead the product risk buy-down plan, working with stakeholders across the bank to effectively influence and shape strategies.
A focus on continuous improvement will guide your efforts to refine product governance practices, ensuring the Personal Product vision and strategy remain clear and effectively executed. By leveraging the capability framework, you'll drive initiatives that improve the capability of Product Managers and support cultural uplift across the Product Practice.
O pukenga | About you:
To be successful in the role, you will bring significant experience in product governance, risk, and obligation management, with a proven ability to drive and coordinate delivery through cross-functional teams. A deep understanding of bank products, processes, and supporting systems is essential, complemented by strong process management experience leading large, complex initiatives. You will demonstrate proven leadership capability, both directly with teams and indirectly across diverse stakeholders.
Your broad technical leadership experience should include expertise in the development and execution of business strategies within agile frameworks. A customer-centric mindset is crucial, along with the capability to influence senior leaders and drive outcomes effectively. You will exhibit curiosity, critical thinking, and a creative approach to problem-solving, with the ability to synthesize complex information into structured, compelling strategic recommendations. Openness to new ideas and comfort in influencing others will be key, as will your ability to engage at the executive level by preparing and presenting impactful papers for senior leadership and board discussions.
