The Head of Performance and Monitoring is an Executive Leadership role within the Charter School Agency and is responsible for effectively implementing and supporting the charter school | kura hourua model.
They will translate policy into engagement strategies, monitor school performance, and provide insights and best practices across the wider charter school network. This role involves collaboration with the Education Review Office and advising the Authorisation Board, who have statutory responsibility for oversight of performance, on the performance of charter schools and the appropriate use of statutory interventions where required.
The role would suit someone who is comfortable delivering with and through others including a mix of direct reports, matrix management, and other parties. The role includes building a team of engagement, monitoring, and performance experts, and resolving issues through leadership and facilitation. They will ensure accountability for performance outcomes across the charter school network.
The role is a full-time permanent role and will report directly to the Chief Executive, Charter School Agency.
The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary based on their individual skills and experience.

To be successful in this role you will have the following capabilities and competencies:
Experience in leading the implementation, monitoring and improvement of organisational systems, frameworks and processes.
Experience in collecting and managing data and developing insights to assess performance management of organisations, as well as to inform wider system performance.
Senior leadership experience, dealing with ambiguity in a complex and dynamic environment.
Experience in developing and delivering integrated strategic and operational plans and budgets.
Proven track record of building and maintaining trusted relationships with a range of high-profile stakeholders.
Experience in building and leading inclusive and diverse teams and creating a safe, open and responsive culture.
You will also have:
Strategic, cross-organisational and cross-agency leadership capability.
Effective leadership and people management, including development, performance management and succession planning.
Effective communication and presentation skills with demonstrable ability to handle media and ministerial enquiries.
Proven financial management skills including understanding of government's financial management processes.
High degree of political nous and sound knowledge of government and public sector processes.
Proven ability to effect change in an uncertain, ambiguous, complex environment.
The Charter School Agency is a departmental agency established on 1 July 2024 to implement and operate the new charter school model, including negotiating, managing contracts, and delivering funding. The Charter School Agency supports the Authorisation Board to approve charter schools, monitor their performance and hold them to account. The first charter schools are expected to open from Term 1 2025.
This role will work across all areas of our business. It will report to the Head of Applications and Contracts.
