This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference to Auckland's financial future. The Head of Financial Strategy and Modelling plays a key role in setting the financial pathway for Auckland Council group and making sure it is reflected in the group's plans, budgets and financial reports. Reporting to the General Manager, Financial Strategy, this role leads a team that provide expert strategic financial analysis, modelling, advice, and guidance on the significant financial issues and opportunities for the Group. This includes leading joint work programmes with central government and other external stakeholders on key financial initiatives, as well as advising and supporting elected members on strengthening the financial resilience of Auckland.
You're part economist, and part accountant. This means you have a unique blend of excellent analytical and financial problem-solving skills, combined with outstanding financial modelling and financial analysis skills, with a solid working knowledge of technical accounting. You are a strong leader and relationship builder, able to identify, define and work with multiple stakeholders at both an executive and political level to provide resolutions to financial issues.
With at least 10 years of experience providing strategic financial advice to chief executives, boards of directors and/or elected members, you can tailor your communication to a variety of audiences. You must have a tertiary qualification in business, commerce, finance or a related discipline and hold a CA, CPA, CGMA, CFA or similar qualification. Public sector financial management experience is highly desirable, including a demonstrated understanding of local government in Auckland.
