Tena tatou.Who are we?Nga Hapu o Otaki (NHoO) represents the five hapu of Ngati Raukawa ki Te Tonga who reside in and around Otaki: Ngati Pare, Ngati Koroki, Ngati Kapu, Ngati Maiotaki, and Ngati Huia ki Katihiku. Since 1998, these hapu have worked collectively to exercise kaitiakitanga over the Otaki River, formalising their collaboration in 2012.As of 1 July 2024, a new legal entity has been established to uphold and carry out the collective aspirations of the hapu and community. Our activities focus on improving the social, educational, health, economic, and spiritual wellbeing of our people, ensuring that the benefits reach our uri no matter where they reside.The nature of the positionWe are seeking an inspiring and visionary leader for the newly established position of Tumu Whakarae, General Manager. This executive role is critical in driving the strategic direction and operational success of NHoO. Reporting to and working closely with the Board, you will be the key driver in advancing the interests of hapu, leading the organisation and ensuring the successful delivery of initiatives that serve the wider community.As Tumu Whakarae, you will embody and uphold the values of NHoO, as well as fostering key matapono in all aspects of your work. You will inspire, lead by example, and nurture the development of others, all while working in alignment with NHoO's core principles of unity, leadership, and stewardship.Essential skills/experiences for the role:Lead and facilitate engagement across hapu, ensuring the voice and aspirations of whanau are heard and actioned.Maintain and foster relationships with hapu and iwi and other key stakeholders, including kura, local government bodies, Crown agencies, and other strategic partners.Express kaupapa and demonstrate tikanga in a range of forums.Oversee and ensure the successful delivery of contracts across sectors such as civil infrastructure, environmental protection, housing, and education.Develop and implement policies, systems, and processes that align with NHoO's strategic goals and values.Provide fiscal leadership and ensure responsible financial management, overseeing a budget of $1.5 million or more.Promote opportunities for our people by leveraging partnerships and securing external funding.Actively represent NHoO in environmental matters, including resource management and cultural impact assessments.Ensure the development of a strong, capable workforce that supports the growth and operational success of NHoO.Skills and Experience Required:Proficient in tikanga and Te Reo Maori.A commitment to the values and tikanga of Nga Hapu o Otaki.Proven track record of community service with demonstrable positive outcomes for Maori.Strong political nous and advocacy experience.Senior leadership experience, including managing multiple teams and complex deliverables.Proficiency in project management and policy development.Experience with the Resource Management Act (RMA) and environmental legislation.Financial acumen with experience managing budgets.If you have a deep commitment to serving and uplifting whanau and hapu and are excited to contribute and lead, we encourage you to apply.How to applyTo apply, or to enquire further in confidence, contact Heather Walker for a confidential conversation now on (09) 632 1108 or email your updated CV and covering letter through to (emailprotected).Applications close on: Monday 4 November at 5.00pm.
