General/Business Unit Manager (CEO & General Management)There's a good chance you've heard of the New Zealand Infrastructure Commission, Te Waihanga. We're small (but mighty) and haven't been around long by government standards. But our job is as big as it gets, helping New Zealand get the right infrastructure, whether it's transport connections that get us from a to b, water and power connections needed to support affordable homes, or schools and hospitals that support our communities.Te Waihanga seeks to transform infrastructure for all New Zealanders. By doing so, our goal is to lift the economic performance of Aotearoa and improve the wellbeing of all New Zealanders.Just some of our achievements include developing New Zealand's first infrastructure strategy which sets a direction for decades to come, as well as ground-breaking research into the roots of the housing crisis, the efficiency of our infrastructure sector, recommendations for our health infrastructure while also maintaining a pipeline that provides insight into New Zealand's planned infrastructure projects.This is why we need you.We're looking for someone to lead the Strategy functions at Te Waihanga.To succeed in this role, you will be passionate about solving some of New Zealand's most significant and intractable challenges, whether it is boosting economic productivity and improving infrastructure delivery outcomes, making better use of our existing infrastructure, adapting to more severe weather events, boosting economic productivity or enabling greater housing affordability in our cities. Faced with a broad subject matter and significant complexity, you will be naturally inquisitive, a fast learner and well connected across New Zealand and internationally.You'll understand analytical methodologies and frameworks that can help breakdown problems and use those to guide strategic and evidence-based discussion and debate. You will also be a proven leader of leaders, able to build and develop a team of professionals who are 100% committed to getting the best out of New Zealand's infrastructure, whilst preparing for a significant time of change.This role will also be responsible for:Developing research products, advice and strategy documents that are designed to improve the coordination of an effective approach to Infrastructure.Leading and managing a high performing team to deliver on Te Waihanga's objectives.Overseeing the execution of a government "centre of excellence" in infrastructure strategy and, research, analytics and advice.Engaging across the sector to ensure delivery of the Infrastructure Commission objectives.To do this you will be experienced at things like | E riro ai i a koe tenei turanga me whai wheako koe ki nga tumahi penei i eneiLeading, managing and influencing at a senior level. Delivering large scale strategy projects and/or research programmes.Developing strategic, evidence-based advice in the infrastructure sector, which could be transport, energy, water, telecommunications, vertical or social sectors.Working as part of a senior executive team with a history of building rapport and influencing at board level desirable.You will also have | Me whai hoki e koeA relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in either engineering, commerce/business, economics, finance or planning. Master's level qualification or MBA/MPA desirable, but not essential.A strategic and analytical systems approach to analysis with an ability to distil complex issues and present compelling solutions even if those solutions push boundaries.Effective communication skills, with the ability to work with Ministers, senior officials and sector leaders.What's in it for you | Nou te rourouWe offer a competitive total remuneration package for this position depending on skills and experience.
