Job Description
As an EV Technician, you will be a key member of our specialist team, handling conversion of diesel trucks to 100% battery electric along with diagnostics, repair, and improvements for the EVs on the road. You will work in a dedicated workshop separate from general repair and maintenance, focusing on high- and low-voltage EV systems, electrical installations, and remote diagnostics. This position requires a strong background in heavy vehicle or plant electrical systems, with EV or high-voltage experience as an added bonus.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnosis and Repair: Perform diagnostics and repairs on both high- and low-voltage electrical systems, including CAN bus and other vehicle control systems.
Remote Support: Provide remote assistance for breakdowns to technicians throughout New Zealand, with travel required for more complex jobs.
Vehicle Conversion: Support the conversion of diesel trucks to fully electric vehicles using EV kits and contribute to electrical integration in OEM EV trucks.
Installation and Design: Design, install, and troubleshoot new wiring systems and circuits; create wiring diagrams and contribute to operating procedures.
Documentation and Communication: Accurately document completed work, maintain records, and communicate effectively with team members, suppliers, and the operations team.
Qualifications:
Qualifications: Level 4 certificate in Automotive Electrical Engineering or Heavy Automotive technician with sound understanding of vehicle electronics.
Experience: Solid experience in heavy vehicle/plant electrical work is essential; any experience with EV or high-voltage systems is a plus.
Certifications: High Voltage EV certification and/or Class 2 or 4 licenses are an advantage.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in diagnostics, CAN bus systems, and electrical installations. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and documentation.
Safety & Compliance: Commitment to safety, adherence to procedures, and willingness to complete all required internal training. Must be able to pass random drug and alcohol tests.

Schedule:
Typical hours are 40 per week based in East Tamaki, with some required travel across New Zealand and overtime when required.
