This critical and diverse role offers a unique opportunity to design, implement, and maintain data pipelines that integrate data from various source systems into our new data lake. As a Data Engineer, you will support the Council's data infrastructure by ensuring efficient and reliable data flows.Key responsibilities of this role include:Design, Build, and Maintain Data Pipelines: As a Data Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines using industry-leading tools such as Snowflake. This role requires you to ensure both security and efficiency by developing and documenting ETL/ELT processes to construct and maintain data models. You will also enhance the performance and reliability of these pipelines through continuous optimization and adherence to best practices.Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: You will work closely with analytics, data engineering, and data governance teams to align on data requirements and solutions, driving the evolution of data engineering practices and standards to improve efficiency and quality. Your collaboration will ensure that data solutions are effectively aligned with organizational goals.Support and Innovate Data Management Practices: Your role will involve supporting the development, automation, and optimization of data assets, ensuring alignment with external benchmarks and industry standards. Additionally, you are expected to proactively explore emerging technologies and industry trends to innovate and enhance data management practices.Foster Team Relationships and Knowledge Sharing: Building strong relationships across teams will be key to successfully delivering data solutions that meet business needs. You will conduct peer reviews and maintain thorough documentation to foster transparency and facilitate knowledge sharing among team members.We are seeking a candidate with over 7 years of experience in Data and Analytics roles within organizations of high data maturity. The ideal candidate will possess a technical or professional degree in a relevant discipline, such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Engineering, or a comparable field. A strong understanding of Data Warehousing and BI architecture, including the ETL process, relational and dimensional modeling, and end-to-end solution development and support, is essential.Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively across functional boundaries to achieve results that benefit our customers.Auckland Council is one of the largest local authorities in the South Pacific providing essential services and facilities to more than 1.5 million people.
