While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for our akonga in our education system.We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to lead, drive, and support commercial, contract and relationship management within a key Ministry programme. This is a fixed term position, based in Wellington, through to December 2025.This position will play a key role within the programme, driving and managing strategic supplier relationship/s, ensuring effective delivery of outcomes, performance management, and implementing governance measures, including balanced scorecards.The ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments is a must, as is strong commercial acumen along with a thorough understanding of performance and governance measures. Proven experience in managing supplier relationships at a strategic level is key, along with ensuring that programme performance metrics are monitored and met at all times. Experience in the food service industry is highly desirable.Key Responsibilities:Lead the commercial and performance management of service contracts within a specific project.Implement robust governance measures and performance metrics (including balanced scorecards) to ensure optimal delivery and compliance.Manage and foster strong supplier relationships to ensure service standards are consistently met.Negotiate and resolve complex contract issues while driving continuous improvement and value-for-money outcomes.Oversee change management initiatives related to contract and supplier performance, ensuring alignment with project goals.Salary range: $139,346 - $169.369 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.Flexible working arrangements where everyone feels valued & supported.The ability to purchase extra days leave.A range of employee network groups.An inclusive environment that encourages your personal cultural competency journey.Development and learning, including mentorship programmes and internal secondments.Wellness initiatives to support your overall health and wellbeing.About you | Mohou akeContract and Supplier Management: Able to manage large contracts, solve issues, and ensure suppliers meet expectations.Performance and Governance: Skilled in setting up and tracking performance measures like balanced scorecards and regular reporting.Change Management: Comfortable leading change, getting buy-in from stakeholders, and ensuring smooth transitions.Commercial Acumen: Strong with budgets, finding cost-effective solutions, and managing financial risks.Leadership: Able to lead and support teams, influence others, and ensure collaboration for success.Problem Solving: Quick to identify and resolve challenges, always focused on finding the best solutions.Communication: Excellent at clear, straightforward communication and building strong relationships.Food Service Knowledge (desirable): Understanding of the food service industry and its specific needs is a bonus.Key Requirements:Proven experience in key contract management, relationship management, and change management.Experience implementing performance and governance frameworks, ideally within the food service industry.Strong understanding of performance measures, with a focus on delivering high-quality services in compliance with regulatory standards.Ability to influence at a senior level, ensuring positive outcomes in high-stakes environments.Demonstrated ability to lead and implement change, with a track record of improving performance across complex projects.The following qualifications are highly desirable but not essential:A relevant tertiary qualification in business, commerce, or supply chain management.Professional contract management and/or supply chain certifications such as MCIPS, WorldCC or equivalent.Project management certifications such as PRINCE2 or PMP.Experience working within the food service industry or public sector procurement.The Ministry of Education Procurement team is a leader in NZ government.
