Job Description: Maori Student Coordinator Position Purpose: This position is responsible for contributing to the enhancement of Maori student educational success by engaging with students and their whanau; facilitating improved access to support mechanisms across the university; and supporting students to manage the key transitions in their student journey to maximise performance, progression, and retention of Maori students.
Department: Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Maori Location: Wellington Reports to: Manager Te Rau Tauawhi Responsible for: Nil Delegations: Band E Job Title: Coordinator – Academic Support Key Relationships: Internal: University Lecturers, Tuputoa Programme Coordinators, Student Administration, Disability Services, Accommodation Services, Health Services External: Akonga Maori, Whanau, Student Hapu and Iwi, Te Paepoto - National Contact Centre, Centre for Learner Success About this area Te Rau Tauawhi is the Maori Student Support Centre at Massey University and delivers Maori student support across Massey's Wellington, Manawatu, Auckland, and Distance campuses.
Accountabilities Maori Student Support: Assist students and whanau in navigating the academic and learning environment at the beginning of their learning journey.
Integrated Care: Liaise with academic and administrative staff for comprehensive student support.
Central Support Services: Coordinate with university support services and student associations, directing students to additional resources.
Navigation Assistance: Help students navigate university systems and supports.
Service Connection: Connect students with relevant academic and support services, both internal and external.
Advocacy Support: Provide advocacy to help Akonga Maori engage with the University.
Pastoral Care: Deliver pastoral care services aligned with cultural practices.
Cultural Support: Offer culturally appropriate support and guidance.
Cultural Exploration: Facilitate students' exploration of whakapapa, te reo Maori, kawa me nga tikanga.
Qualifications and Experience Qualifications: An undergraduate qualification is desirable.
Experience: Experience working with Akonga Maori and whanau is essential.
Experience working within a tertiary education environment is highly desirable.
Experience in providing general learning support, advice, and guidance is essential.
Understanding of Tikanga and Te Reo Maori is essential.
