Are you an experienced Registered Nurse with strong Mental Health experience looking to take the next step in your career? We have a role for an experienced Senior Registered Mental Health Nurse who will provide nursing advice and leadership after hours.
Mo te turanga - About the role
This role will work independently and in collaboration with other health professionals, perform general nursing functions, delegate and direct enrolled nurses and healthcare assistants. Provide comprehensive assessments to develop, implement and evaluate an integrated plan of health care, and provide interventions that require substantial scientific and professional knowledge, skills, and clinical decision-making.
Key accountabilities include but are not limited to the following:
Provide Clinical Leadership of the service while fostering a culture that strives for excellence in clinical service provision within allocated resources.
Co-ordinate nursing resources after hours ensuring areas of increased need are identified and responded to.
Provide support and advice on managing challenging behaviours presented by patients.
Maintain an up-to-date overview of the inpatient bed capacity and assist with problem-solving when demand is greater than bed availability.
Maintain an up-to-date overview of patient care situations, supporting and advising as required to ensure early intervention and de-escalation.
Work closely with the Service manager in the recruitment and oversight as well as development of the staff that make up the Resource team.
You will support inpatient units and crisis teams across the District by providing advice around managing challenging clients, assisting with bed management, and supporting staff after hours.

You will demonstrate sound professional judgement, strong leadership skills, and a clear commitment to high-quality care and the development of the Service. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate relevant experience and knowledge of patient safety, staff management, Trendcare, and the ability to think outside the square.
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
Previous experience working within the Mental Health sector.
Strong leadership skills.
Up-to-date knowledge on the strategic documents that currently influence service improvements and be able to articulate this to the MHAID workforce.

Our successful candidate will do the following:
Be a Registered Nurse with a current APC.
Hold Level 4 or Senior Nurse PDRP or level 3 and working towards level 4.
Work towards relevant Postgraduate qualifications at a minimum of a Diploma and/or a Master's degree.
Have proven success in leadership in a health-related environment, which will complement your experience in and knowledge of clinical quality, safety, and best practice.
A minimum of five years of experience in working in Mental Health.
Utu whanui - Salary range
This role belongs to NZNO / Te Whatu Ora Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 1 ($114,025 p.a) and Step 2 ($121,444 p.a prorata) of the Designated Senior Nurse Scale.
