Additional Specialist Teacher for Learning Support Full time, Permanent Secondary (Years 7–15) / wharekura, Certificated teacher Subjects: English, Health and Physical Education, Learning Languages, Mathematics and Statistics, Science, Social Sciences, Technology, Te Reo Maori, The Arts The additional specialist teacher will be a pivotal member of our educational team, responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with learning difficulties and disabilities.
This role requires a flexible and reliable individual who places the needs of students at the forefront and collaborates effectively with various stakeholders, including whanau (family), teacher aides, and outside agencies.
Key Responsibilities: Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Organize and write IEPs in consultation with students, their whanau, teacher aides, and other relevant parties.
Ensure that plans are tailored to meet each student's unique needs and regularly updated.
Collaboration: Work closely with teacher aides and students to deliver effective support.
Liaise with outside agencies to ensure comprehensive support services.
Reporting and Communication: Report to the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and senior leadership regarding student progress, challenges, and program effectiveness.
Maintain open communication with parents daily about any changes or updates related to the unit.
Timetable Management: Design and manage teacher aide timetables, including scheduling breaks and coverage for absences.
Serve as the first point of contact for teacher aides and students regarding any issues or absences.
Programme Design: Develop a year-long programme overview for ORS (Ongoing Resourcing Scheme) funded students, incorporating best practices and evidence-based strategies.
Implementation of Programmes: Implement structured literacy programs and/or Numicon where appropriate, and integrate remedial programmes for students within the mainstream school setting.
