As part of our ongoing efforts to respond to the impacts of climate change and build resilience, we are seeking a passionate and experienced Adaptation Advisor.This is a pivotal role leading the Waikato District Resilience Project, in collaboration with Waikato Regional Council staff and other partners, focusing on Recovery and Adaptive Management Planning to advance long-term resilience for vulnerable communities.In addition, this role will also focus on enhancing the resilience of local infrastructure and natural environments specific to this District and related to climate risk assessments. You will work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including government agencies, community groups, iwi, hapu and other mana whenua, and businesses, to support, create and promote effective adaptation measures.What I do?You will work closely with the Resilience team, Marae Resilience Adviser, Community Resilience Adviser, Emergency Management Advisor and the Climate Action and Sustainability Advisor to develop a consistent, collaborative and strategic approach.You will add value to the organisation by supporting the implementation of collaborative Adaptive Management Plans and recovery plans.You will undertake climate risk assessments with the Climate Action and Sustainability team.You will build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with Waikato Regional Council, iwi partners, and other stakeholders.Develop a strategic and integrated approach to resilience planning, enhancing long-term adaptability and preparedness of vulnerable communities in the Waikato District.Inform Council responses to economic, social, and environmental challenges, with a focus on climate change adaptation and community vulnerability.Effective community engagement and empowerment, fostering active participation in resilience and adaptive management planning.Strategic insights and evidence-based recommendations to communities, senior leadership and elected members, supporting informed decision-making.Provide oversight on adaptation activities undertaken by Council's infrastructure and service delivery.What I bring?At least three years' experience in adaptation, resilience, climate change or planning.Relevant tertiary qualification.Strategic thinker.Action and solution orientated.Team player and have great people and collaboration skills.Experience in resilience planning, adaptive management, or a related field, with a strong understanding of community engagement.Demonstrated success in leading complex, cross-organizational projects and strategic initiatives.Proven ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, iwi partners, community groups, and internal teams.Why join our team?We're a flexible working organisation, an equal opportunity employer, and we value diversity.
