The Whakapapa whanau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation.Mo te tunga | About the roleIf you are a Level 3 Ski Instructor (or international equivalent) we have the opportunity for you. Join our Snow School team as the Ski Trainer supporting our leaders in developing our talented instructors.As the Ski Trainer, you will bring your level 3 qualifications and extensive experience as a Ski Instructor and Trainer, to take on the responsibility of elevating the expertise and performance standards of all instructors within the Snow School team.You will be involved in designing and implementing training programs aimed at enhancing teaching techniques, safety protocols, and guest service excellence. Working closely with our Instructors to identify areas for improvement, provide constructive feedback, and deliver training tailored to their individual needs.You can expect that you will:Be an advocate and cheerleader to enhance the standards of our team and ensure an exceptional guest experience.Work collaboratively with Instructors through teaching methods which consider the personal capabilities (age, ability to learn) of their guests and incorporate the actual situation on the ski area (weather, snow conditions and terrain), providing guidance and training as required.Provide efficient, polite and professional service to all guests.Be the source of knowledge to our guests on products and services available at Whakapapa.Build your leadership skills, and have fun while doing so.This is a full-time seasonal opportunity (June to October) offering 30 plus rostered hours per week (Monday to Sunday).As a trainer, you will bring a:A minimum of NZSIA / SBINZ Level 3 or equivalent.Extensive previous experience as a Ski Instructor and preferably training instructors.Ability to obtain a clear New Zealand Police Vetting check.Commitment to great guest service.Ability to build effective teaching and working relationships with a wide range of people.Respond in a positive and proactive manner to feedback from supervisors/managers.Maintain an approachable and co-operative persona with co-workers and guests.A tolerance for uncertain market and weather conditions (particularly the weather conditions!).A flexible approach to rosters, guest needs and the direction of the organisation.Gear up for the ultimate work adventure at Whakapapa.
