Downstairs is a wine bar located in Central Christchurch on New Regent Street, complimented by the established bistro Twenty Seven Steps located upstairs. Our focus is delicious wine alongside banging plates of food and cracking service. Our wine list is a diverse and everchanging 'beast' from international natty drops, local icons, and everything in between. We boast around 40 glass pours at any one time.
Are we looking for you? We are looking for someone to take ownership of this space, run it right and have fun whilst they are doing it. You are the face of our team. Someone who leads from the front, looks after customers and staff alike, hustles the tables, anticipates needs and truly understands a good night's service. You are not afraid to get your hands dirty as it is a service dominant role. Empathy and kindness in your leadership style is needed and excellent communication is essential. Meeting staff cost targets doesn't faze you and of course you need to know about wine. This could be through experience or formal education, e.g., WSET. We want to make this summer busy & fun so we have a small budget for some events - this is to be led by you!
Knowledge around spirits and beer complement your passion for wine but you have a great Bar Manager to help with this side. Relationships with suppliers are important and we have some great friendships with local vineyards. Clear communication and experience are essential along with a valid DM Cert. You are here for solutions, not problems and have an understanding of budgets. You also have strong support from committed owners. Posbiz & Loaded knowledge is an advantage. Again, service is the focus. The wine bar is open Tuesday through Saturday nights with the odd lunch function and the aim to get open Mondays also with the odd pop-up on Sunday. Your guaranteed hours are negotiable. Currently, the job sits between 35-42 hours.
In a nutshell, all we've talked about above and excellent hygiene, punctuality, reliability, kindness, and hustle. You must be able to present in Christchurch for an interview and have the right to work in Aotearoa legally.
We are also building up our summer team, so a number of FOH / bar roles are available - email us!
Please ensure there is a cover letter in your application specifying why you would love to come and work with us. We are excited to meet you.
