Volunteer National Youth Programme Standards Manager Casual Primary Location: Canterbury Hato Hone St John has been serving New Zealanders and working to save lives since 1885.
As well as providing Ambulance Services, our programmes and team of over 11,000 staff and volunteers are helping to build strong, resilient communities across the motu; supporting everyone in Aotearoa to live healthier, happier and longer lives.
This role is open to Hato Hone St John members only.
This newly created position offers an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic volunteer to join the National Youth Leadership Team (NYLT), reporting to the Youth Strategic Development Manager, and to make a positive difference to the programme.
In this role, you will provide overarching leadership and coordination for National Portfolio Officers across various areas including Drill and Ceremonies, First Aid, Healthcare, and Competitions.
You will advocate for these areas nationwide, ensuring consistent and high standards across Aotearoa.
Additionally, you will support these areas at the NYLT level and collaborate closely with Portfolio Officers to address issues, escalating them to the attention of the NYLT for resolution and improvement.
This role can be based in any city within New Zealand.
You will be expected to attend the monthly NYLT meetings online and may be invited to attend quarterly in-person NYLT meetings as needed.
Key responsibilities include: Provide leadership, direction, and support to Portfolio Officers, ensuring high and consistent standards in Drill and Ceremonies, First Aid, Healthcare, and Competitions across Aotearoa.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with members and stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and achieve programme goals.
Advocate for portfolio areas nationwide, ensuring clear communication and effective partnerships while contributing to the development of the National Strategy.
Oversee recruitment, training, and development of volunteers, ensuring timely induction, and fostering engagement and retention through regular social interaction.
Manage portfolio budgets and contribute to business continuity, promoting resilience through policy, risk management, and St John's initiatives.
Ko wai koe - About you: To be successful in this role, you will have: Proven leadership experience within the Youth Programme, with skills in managing geographically spread volunteer teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle complex issues effectively.
Knowledge of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application for St John in the community and healthcare environment will be advantageous; otherwise, a strong commitment and willingness to engage in training and education to develop in this area is essential.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, demonstrating flexibility, resilience, and a positive attitude.
Commitment to St John Core Values, with a strong "can-do" attitude and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
A strong team player with commitment to contribute to the business planning, delivery, and development.
Competency in Microsoft Office and a Level 2 First Aid certificate.
Previous St John Youth managerial knowledge / experience preferable.
