Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu is home to our city's treasury of art - a pataka of unique images, memories and ideas.
We have one exciting opportunity available to work within the Gallery's Visitor Services team to provide visitors with exceptional service, quality information and tailored opportunities for engagement with Gallery programming and events.
Encourage customers of all ages to connect with Christchurch Art Gallery exhibitions, and promote our programmes, events, shop and facilities to visitors and stakeholders. Additionally, you will be responsible for:
Warmly resolve all enquiries from walk in, electronic and phone in customers, as far as possible at first point of contact.
Use your knowledge of the exhibitions and collection to provide informative and engaging visitors experiences.
Support sales in the Design Store.
Respond to and record emergency incidents, accidents, customer problems, procedures for art works and complaints.
Be part of an exciting schedule of exhibitions as well as a busy calendar of evening functions and events to host.
Your responsibilities include:
Manaakitanga. Looking after others by extending respect, hospitality, generosity, warmth and care to them.
Proactively provide exceptional service and support to customers in an efficient and effective manner.
Carry out basic administration and POS operations accurately and in a timely way. An intermediate level of computer skills will be advantageous.
Care for exhibitions and people in line with Gallery procedures and processes.
Maintain an understanding of the Gallery programme and collection that will enhance and enrich your interactions.
Develop an understanding of te ao Maori perspectives and tikanga, including accurate pronunciation of te reo Maori.
We need someone who is familiar with the Gallery's much-loved collection and art in Aotearoa New Zealand, the Pacific and beyond. Our ideal candidates are people who can clearly deliver information and help our visitors connect with our exhibitions and programmes. If you also have a good knowledge of Maori or Pasifika art, artists and/or culture, we'd love to hear from you.
You'll make sure our valued visitors to the Gallery are provided with a genuinely warm welcome, and informative assistance is provided in a professional and personalised way. You'll also ensure the safety and security of our gallery, collection and people and contribute to the success of our after-hours functions and retail store.
About you | Ko Koe Tenei
At least 3 years in a customer service role, and cash handling experience of at least 1 year in a retail or similar environment.
Previous experience in a front-facing customer service role, with Gallery, hospitality and/or retail experience an added advantage.
Intermediate level of computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with mobile and digital technology.

Christchurch Art Gallery is open 7 days a week, 364 days a year, with a late night each Wednesday. Visitor Hosts provide customer service during these hours and also assist with events and openings outside of our usual hours.
Our ideal candidates must have excellent availability over the weekends, be available for late Wednesday nights and some evenings. If you have any restrictions in your availability please make these clear in your cover letter.
Hours: Successful candidate must work a Saturday on a permanent basis. Rostered days are: Tuesdays to Saturdays.
Salary: $56,740 to $63,045 per annum.
Location: Christchurch Art Gallery, 312 Montreal Street.
