Mo tenei turanga mahi?| About this role As the Principal Specialist - Transport Engineer, you will provide expert guidance on transportation infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and other related assets. Your primary focus is to support policy development, asset planning, operations, and project delivery. This position requires a deep understanding of transportation systems, and your advice will help shape Council's transportation policies, strategies, and designs.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, oversee the design and delivery of physical works, and ensure compliance with national strategies and best practices. Additionally, you will provide leadership in risk management, offering strategic solutions to mitigate risks and enhance Council's infrastructure efficiency and provide support in the management of transportation related operational and capital contracts. By staying up to date with emerging trends and technologies, you will ensure that transportation initiatives meet both current and future needs, while promoting operational excellence and sustainable practices within the Waitaki District.
He aha taau e kawe mai | What you'll bring The preferred candidate will have:
Relevant Qualifications and Experience: A tertiary qualification in civil or transport engineering, with a minimum of 10 years' experience. You will have extensive expertise in transportation engineering principles and processes, especially in areas like sealed and unsealed roads, bridges, and street lighting.Technical and Legislative Knowledge: Strong ability to interpret and apply transportation-related legislation and national policies. You will ensure projects align with local and national standards while contributing to strategic and operational plans.Collaborative and Leadership Skills: A capable leader who can effectively work across teams and sectors. You will communicate technical information clearly, influence stakeholders, and lead initiatives that support Council's strategic objectives.Problem-Solving and Innovation: An innovative thinker who can address transportation challenges through creative, sustainable solutions. You will integrate emerging trends and technologies to keep Council's transport systems future-ready.We're always open to secondments from other Local Government employers and across the wider public service. Utu a-tau | Salary The salary for this position will commence between $106,186 and $124,925 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
