Our engineering team is looking for a technician who is ready to embrace supporting tutors and students in a workshop environment.You will be:Responsible for the Engineering workshop, supporting staff and students in Engineering programmes.Ensuring equipment/machinery is kept in clean, safe working order.Prepared to upskill in cultural competency and be ready to embrace tikanga Maori and Te Ao Maori in your work.Inspiring potential engineering students through planning, running, and offering taster courses.Working with tutors to ensure the Engineering workshop implements practices that effectively prepare learners for industry.Working within the wider team and closely with the Operations Manager and the Department Leadership team.Continuously lifting the standards in all aspects of Health, Safety, and Wellbeing in the department.Fostering a great team culture by being a respectful communicator and having a team mindset.Having sound administrative skills, time management, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.Providing excellent levels of customer service, being empathetic, professionally courteous, and respectful.This role involves planning, resource allocation, quality systems, and processes associated with the technical operations within the department. A strong adherence to Health and Safety is required.Minimum requirements include:A qualification in Engineering e.g. BEngTech, NZDE, NZCE, or equivalent.A work history in mechanical engineering in a workshop.Industry experience as an engineering supervisor or technician.Strong customer service skills, with the ability to connect with a variety of people.The ability to maintain machinery in a workshop environment.Time management skills, including the ability to effectively and efficiently administer, organise, and co-ordinate activities to meet deadlines.Ability to solve technical problems.Competent computer skills in systems and software.Willingness to commit to the Ara Capability Framework/s.Ability to work co-operatively and collaboratively with others.Ara Institute of Canterbury, a business division of Te Pukenga (Ara), is a vibrant and progressive tertiary institute providing world-class, tertiary-level education throughout the Canterbury and Waitaki region.
