This role supports the delivery of external and internal communications that consistently reinforce the organisational activities, culture, and the reputation of Council. You will inspire, lead, and motivate a team of communications advisors and content creators working alongside the organisation to connect Council with its communities.
You will ensure a proactive and innovative communications approach that delivers timely, open, and transparent information for all audiences.
To be successful in this role, you will have communications, people leadership and media management experience alongside a collaborative approach that sees you easily engage with a wide variety of stakeholders.
You will be politically astute, structured, deadline focused and a true problem-solver who is adept at advising on, and developing, communications and media strategies and plans. You'll need the flexibility to be available on an on-call basis and will bring:
Demonstrated effective leadership experience in a relevant field
Strong communication skills; written and verbal
Experience working with media
Breadth of experience across communications platforms
Sound judgement and decision-making skills
Ability to manage conflict, have difficult conversations and build positive working relationships
Strong awareness of tikanga Maori and te reo Maori

You'll also support the Communications Manager's role overseeing the strategic direction of the team and implementing our communications goals.
